Black History Month: Black Reproductive Health

From unequal healthcare access (physical and mental) to the overrepresentation of Black children in the child welfare and foster care systems, Black communities are continually victimized by institutional systems. There are many disparities that contribute to poor outcomes of health in Black communities: Black women are at much higher risk of death (four times) than their white counterparts during birth and experience peripartum mood disorders at nearly double their white counterparts, given racism as a compounding risk factor. Furthermore, the history of gynecological care is fraught in atrocities committed against Black women with no consent, no anesthesia, and no pain management.

During Black History Month, Inclusive Reproductive Healing wants to celebrate Black professionals in the reproductive health space that empower Black voices in their reproductive health needs.
